Project Statement

Analyzing my experience of living in the southeastern region of the United States, the majority of my experiences were surrounded by feelings of displacement and exclusion. The impact of these feelings affected my own perception of identity as a Chinese-American adoptee and my role as a woman. Despite my involvement with the Presbyterian Church, I felt excluded by this seemingly inclusive community. Using digital photographic methods, I sought out isolated structures, political and cultural motifs to describe the nature of the south and its history of exclusion.
